Coasting

It was very chilly first thing so it took a good 2-3 hours for me to get outside. My legs were also a bit ‘hang on, didn’t we try hard enough yesterday?’. But there were too many grubby patches on my soul for me to stay indoors – I am the only person who feels that they can hoover out their head by running?

So I went along the coast (turned right so it must be er, er East) a bit further than last time and was rewarded by some really beautiful sights.

This is Reculver church from the er west

and from the east, showing some of the sea defences. As with much of the rest of the area, it has been nibbled and nagged by the sea for centuries. Somewhere out under the waves is part of Reculver town, now reduced to a pub, some cottages and caravan parks.

On the left, unseen in the Smyrnium is part of the Roman castle wall.
